Kyra Marsigliano, DVM

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

Dr. Marsigliano (Dr. “Mars” or Dr. M) knew that she wanted to be a veterinarian from the time she could pronounce the word. She grew up in Staten Island, NY, and gained experience working at a wildlife rehabilitation center, animal shelter, and small animal clinic through high school and college. She studied Marine Science at the University of South Carolina, where she studied fish population dynamics and completed a NOAA Hollings Internship studying dolphin diets and performing post-mortem exams on dolphins.

She returned to New York to attend Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. While in vet school, she adopted her dog, Atlas, and participated in various dog sports, including agility, dog parkour, rally obedience, herding, and even mushing. In addition to her studies, she worked for a mobile spay/neuter clinic, and as an emergency surgery technician and anesthesia assistant in the teaching hospital.

After graduation, Dr. M moved to Jacksonville to escape the cold and work at the Jacksonville Humane Society, where she worked hard to reunite or keep pets with their families. She has worked as a relief (locum) veterinarian at various emergency and primary care practices throughout Jacksonville, St. Augustine, and other areas. She is currently serving as the president of the Jacksonville Veterinary Medical Society.

Dr. M is finishing a master’s degree in Medical Cannabis Science and Therapeutics through the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy.

Dr. M has volunteered with Operation Catnip through the University of Florida, teaching spay surgery to veterinary students. Prior to COVID, she also traveled to Ecuador with the UF veterinary student group Project HEAL (Health Extension and Learning) to provide preventive veterinary care and spay/neuter surgery to pets and livestock in rural areas with limited access to veterinary care.

Her interests include emergency medicine, pain management, nutrition, neonatal and geriatric medicine. She enjoys client education and believes in empowering owners in the decision process for their pets’ care. She loves all animals but is especially fond of geriatric cats and “spicy” kitties, and works to reduce the stress felt by her patients at every visit. Dr. M believes every patient is unique and their bond with their owner/family is special, and she serves to honor that bond by optimizing every pet’s quality of life.
